[Eradicating poverty is a common challenge facing mankind. China has contributed to more than 70% of global poverty reduction since the founding of the People's Republic of China, creating a global miracle in the history of poverty alleviation. Web of Science recently released a list of topics worthy of attention related to eradicating poverty. It also announced which topics were the popular areas of focus for published papers. According to the report, China published nearly 3,000 papers in this field over the past 40 years, making it the country with the most papers published in Asia.

Poverty is one of the most acute social problems in the world today. Among the 17 sustainable development goals adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015, eliminating poverty ranked first. On Feb. 25, 2021, China held a grand gathering in Beijing to mark the country's poverty alleviation accomplishments and honor model poverty fighters. After eight years of continuous efforts, all rural poor people in the country have been lifted out of poverty, and all poor counties have been removed from poverty list according to the current standards.

Web of Science retrieved 79,400 related papers published globally, of which the United States had the highest number of publications with 26,931 papers, followed by the UK with 10,470 papers. China was the top contributor from Asia, with 2,959 published papers.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences was the largest contributor of related papers in China with a total of 294 papers, followed by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Poverty does not only mean a lack of income and difficulty in maintaining livelihoods, but also the inability to fully obtain education and other basic public services, being discriminated against by society, and being unable to participate in decision-making. Therefore, "eradicating poverty" is a multifaceted goal with many areas of focus. Clarivate's InCites database reviewed areas of focus in the field over the past 40 years, including multidimensional poverty, divorce, housing prices, raising children, microfinance, gentrification, and deforestation.

Among the nearly 3,000 papers published by China in the past 40 years, the top 10 areas of focus all came from two categories: the social sciences and agriculture, and the environment and ecology.

The top 10 areas of focus in China include China's problems, multidimensional poverty, deforestation, microfinance, ecosystem services, economic growth, tourism, adaptation to climate change, environmental Kuznets curve, and water management. Two of the most highly cited published papers focused on multidimensional poverty and ecosystem services.
